Azmi & Associates is pleased to announce the corporate appointments of two of our Partners as follows:

ZUHAIDI MOHD SHAHARI has been appointed as a member of the Audit Committee of InvestKL effective from 1st January 2021 for 2 years.

His depth of experience, network and exposures in managing domestic and cross-border investments as well as his multiple professional accolades such as AsiaLaw Leading Lawyer and Asia Pacific Legal 500 Recommended Lawyer have led him to this appointment.

His role in the Audit Committee is primarily to assist the Board of Directors in fulfilling its oversight responsibilities for the financial reporting process, the system of internal control, the audit process and the company’s process for monitoring compliance with laws and regulations and the applicable code of conduct.

InvestKL is a Government Investment Promotion Agency mandated to attract Fortune 500 and Forbes 2000 type multinational companies to establish their regional hubs and undertake regional activities in Greater Kuala Lumpur. InvestKL works with various government agencies to attract MNCs from the USA, Europe and Asia-Pacific to conduct their regional business, innovation, talent hubs and high-value business services activities to enhance their company’s growth in Asia.

Zuhaidi joined Azmi & Associates in May 2002 as an Associate under the Mergers, Acquisitions & New Ventures Practice Group and Real Estates Practice Groups. He is a Partner and Head of the Projects Practice Group. Some of the notable real estate’s development projects that he has advised include KLIA Aeropolis, Subang Aerospace Industrial Park, Kapar i-Zone Industrial Park, Pagoh Education Hub, various asset purchase and leaseback transactions for government-linked companies, plantation and property assets transfer exercise in Sime Darby group of companies, dealings of few office buildings in KL Sentral, advising on tender exercise, joint development agreements, advisory on construction contracts (JKR, FIDIC, PAM) and contract administrations. Zuhaidi is the Firm’s Partner and Head of Projects Practice Group. He is also a member of the Firm’s Governance Committee and serves as directors of a few non-listed companies.

PHILIP TEOH has been appointed by the Malaysian Competition Commission [MyCC] as a member of its Expert Panel Committee (“Committee”) for Market Review on Transportation Sector in Malaysia under The Competition Act 2010.

This appointment is evidence of his 3 decades involvement in Shipping, Logistics and International Trade and his role in the Industry. He is also a member of ABLM, the Legal Subcommittee of FIATA the Swiss-based worldwide organization of Freight Forwarders.

He argued the inaugural reported decision of the Malaysian Admiralty Court in the case of The Istana VI. The Committee consists of members from the key individuals from the government agencies and Industry with relevant background and expertise in Transport, Logistics, Ports and related Industries to give feedback to MyCC for its market review.

MyCC is an independent body established under the Competition Commission Act 2010 to enforce the Competition Act 2010. Its main role is to protect the competitive process for the benefit of businesses, consumers and the economy.

Philip is a dual qualified Singapore and Malaysian lawyer with more than 30 years of experience specializing in the areas of shipping, transportation, admiralty, insurance, international trade and arbitration. He is an accredited Arbitrator with the key Maritime Arbitration Centres of LMAA, EMAC, SCMA as well as ICC, LCIA, AIAC, KCAB, AABD Brunei Stockholm Chamber of Commerce amongst others.

His passion in this field has also led him into being an Adjunct Lecturer with BAC Malaysia’s largest law school and an author of a few key Practitioners Texts of the original volumes of Halsbury’s Laws of Malaysia on Sale of Goods, Equity, Conflict of Laws, Bailment & Lien, Shipping, Carriers [Land, Air and Sea], Forms and Precedents on Shipping, Insurance Claims, Wills and Wills Trusts, Annotated Merchant Shipping Laws, Annotated Sale of Goods and a Chapter on Carriage of Goods by Sea in Bullen Leake & Jacob Malaysia on Precedents of Pleadings.

He currently heads the Shipping, Insurance and International Trade Practice Group of the Firm.
